Pampigny

Pampigny is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Pampigny situated 650 meters above sea level. Level, 10 km north-west of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The scattered village extends to a slightly inclined slope to the east on the plateau of the Jura plateau, a scenic location in the western rim of the Vaud Mittelland.

Population

With 1070 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Pampigny one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. History

The municipal area of Pampigny traces have been found dating from Roman times and from the early Middle Ages. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1016 under the name Pimpinengis. Later, the names Pampiniacum ( 1141 ) published, Panpinie ( 1228 ), Pampignie ( 1232), Pagpignie ( 1235 ), Pampigniez ( 1324 ) and Pampignyer ( 1335). The place name probably derives from the personal name Pempenius.

In the Middle Ages Pampigny belonged to the lords of Cossonay which gave the resident nobles as a fief of the village. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 Pampigny came under the administration of the bailiwick of Morges. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Cossonay.

Attractions

The single-nave building of the Reformed parish church of Saint -Pierre was built in the 15th century, the facade comes from 1736th in the interior wall paintings have survived from the Middle Ages.
