Rocchetta Nervina

Rocchetta Nervina ( in Ligurian: A ruchetta ) is a municipality with 270 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the northern Italian region of Liguria. Politically it belongs to the province of Imperia.

Geography

The medieval village of Rocchetta Nervina is located on the slopes of Monte Terca, near the mouth of the Rio Oggia in the Barbaira in Val Nervia. The distance to the coast of the Ligurian Sea is about 13 kilometers. This location in the hinterland of Ventimiglia gives Rocchetta Nervina a largely constant mild climate throughout the year.

On the territory of Rocchetta Nervina the crossing point of the Alta Via is the trail sentiero Balcone. This connects Sanremo, Nice and Menton.

The municipality belongs to the Comunità Montana Intemelia and is approximately 53 km from the provincial capital of Imperia.

According to the Italian classification with respect to seismic activity, the community of Zone 3 was assigned. This means that Rocchetta Nervina is in a seismically active zone little.

Climate

Specialty

In the vicinity of the only noteworthy DOC Red Wine also is grown in Liguria - Rossese of Dolce Acqua.
