Rügland

Rügland ( coll: Rigla ) is a municipality in the Middle Franconian district of Ansbach and a member of the administrative community Weihenzell.

Geography

Geographical Location

Rügland is located in the natural park of Franconia. Neighboring municipalities are (from north clockwise beginning ): Trautskirchen, Neuhof an der Zenn, Dietenhofen Weihenzell, teaching mountain, Flachslanden and Obernzenn.

History

The first mention Rüglands dates from 1137th The manor of Baron von Crailsheim, which belonged to the Frankish knights circle in 1796 sequestered by Prussia and part of the acquired in 1792 by Prussia Principality of Ansbach. With the Act of Confederation, in 1806 the city became part of Bavaria. Created in 1818 the current municipality.

Incorporations

On 1 January 1977 parts of the territory of the dissolved municipality Unternbibert were incorporated.

The coat of arms description reads: Under a red battlements main shield in silver a black sign with golden beams, beseitet each an upright black deer rod.

Culture and sights

Structures

The Rügland Castle is one of the few water towers in Middle Franconia. The north wing dates from the early 17th century, the rest of the plant was constructed in 1714 by Pländen of Carl Friedrich von Zocha. The castle contains, among other things, a family museum of the Lords of Crailsheim.

The Château Park Rügland is decorated with sandstone sculptures of mythological figures.

Others

The Turks Cross from 1735 reminds us of an extraordinary destiny: In the Siege of Belgrade in 1688, two Turks were captured. One of these men, who bore the name of Mustapha, Hannibal von Crailsheim had saved the life of a battle. He came to Germany and served many years in the men of Crailsheim. In 1727 he was baptized in the church in Rügland. He was named Carl Osman, godfather was the Margrave of Ansbach, Carl Friedrich. Born in Constantinople Opel in 1655 Carl Osman founded the church in 1734 Rügland two silver candlesticks. He also decreed in his will that everyone who came once to his funeral, should get five cruisers. When he died in 1735 at the age of 80 years, the church could not believe the amount of 925 mourners. The Turks cross bears the inscription: Here rests in God Carl Osman was born to Constantin Opel in 1655, before Belgrade captured in 1688, baptized Rügland 1727, related services 47 years. He died in 1735, aged 80 years.

The station Unternbibert - Rügland endpoint was the disused Bibertbahn.
