Salzlandkreis

The Salzlandkreis is a district in Saxony- Anhalt, which was formed in the wake of the district reform on 1 July 2007 by merging the former counties Aschersleben - Staßfurt (without Falkenstein / Harz), Bernburg and Beautiful Beck. He is in Saxony -Anhalt, the only county that is not adjacent to another German state.

Geography

With a surface area of 1426 km ² of Salzlandkreis is the second smallest district of Saxony- Anhalt. While in the east of the Elbe forms the border with the Nachbarkeis Anhalt- Bitterfeld over a length of 22 kilometers, located in the northern parts of the city on the opposite bank of the Elbe Beautiful Beck. Historical development

In the Middle Ages prevailed in the district today is essentially the bishoprics of Magdeburg and Halberstadt. The southeast belonged since 1170 to askanischen Anhalt Bernburg as a temporary residence. After the two bishoprics secularized after the Thirty Years War and had been replaced in 1680 by the Duchy of Magdeburg secular whose territories came under the management of the hall circle. Naming

The name Salzlandkreis refers to the centuries of salt mining in the region, notably in the former Wieliczka, today's bathroom Salzelmen. District

In the first district elections in Salzlandkreis on 22 April 2007 began, the three district councils of the old circles, Heike Brehmer (CDU ) from Aschersleben, Ulrich Gerstner (SPD ) from Bernburg and Erik Hunker (independent, but supported by the FDP) from Beautiful Beck and Sabine Dirlich ( LEFT ), Manfred Horst (NPD ) and Harald Hinze at (REP ). Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 29 October 2007 by the Ministry of Home Affairs of Saxony- Anhalt.

The two salt baskets make reference to the name Salzlandkreis while anhaltischer Bear and Prussian eagle stand for the historical division of the region in Anhalt and Prussian Territories. Flag

Economy and infrastructure

On the fertile ground flare in the north of the county agriculture dominates.
