Sankt Gangloff

St. Gangloff is a town in the Saale- wood land district of Thuringia, and part of the joint management Hermsdorf.

Geography

St. Gangloff is located in the Thuringian wood land on the road from Hermsdorfer Cross to Gera. The town is crossed by Fischbach. The area west of the town is forested, while the area to the east is used for agriculture.

Neighboring communities

Adjacent communities are Eineborn, Lipper -Erdmannsdorf, Morsdorf, Ottendorf, Reichenbach, Schleifreisen and Tautendorf in the Saale- Holzland and Kraftsdorf and Lindenkreuz district Greiz.

History

For the first time, the village was mentioned in 1266. A Holy Gangloff (or Gangolf ) consecrated chapel gave the place its name. Formerly possessed the place about three mills at Fischbach, in two of which are preserved the building yet. From the valley of the fish creek, where the oldest houses in St. Gangl offs are, the town has expanded over time in northern and western direction.

About 1.5 kilometers west of the village at the upper outlet of the fish creek is the property Schlossberg. It should once have been the site of a castle.

Policy

At the council elections on 7 June 2009, there were the following result:

  • Wählergemeinschaft "New St. Gangloff ": 66.9 % - 8 seats
  • Free Wählergemeinschaft: 33.1 % - 4 seats

The honorary mayor Frank Wiedenhöft of the voters Community "New St. Gangloff " was selected last on June 6, 2010.

Economy and infrastructure

St. Gangloff has a well- developed business park in which have settled in the course of time some companies. The best-known company is probably the company Goldmännchen tea.

Education

After the fire, the old school a newly built school in St. Gangloff was opened as POS Werner Lamberz in 1980. After 1990, this was converted into a State normal school. Due to decreasing pupil numbers, the school was closed on 31 July 2007.

Culture and sights

Worth seeing some old half-timbered houses in the "Old Village ", one of them with an original clay oven, the church with the old cemetery and the Forest Cemetery.

About two kilometers southwest of the town is only a few meters from the Federal Highway 9 removed a stone cross. Originally, it was hidden in the woods and was erected in 1964 after finding on the present site.
