Sévery

Sévery is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Sévery is located at 610 m above sea level. M., 8 kilometers north- west of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The scattered village extends on the high plateau of the western Vaud means the country, north of the village Bach Combagnou that belongs to the catchment area of ​​Morges.

The area of ​​2.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the gently undulating high plateau in the Vaud Mittelland. The communal land extends on a slope, which is inclined slightly to the east. The northern part is drained by the Combagnou, the southern part of the Morges on Lake Geneva back. On the forest height at La Violette is 631 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Sévery. Population

With 211 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Sévery one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 92.8 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.6 % and 1.6 % portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Sévery amounted in 1900 to 162 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1960 to 115 people, a significant population increase was observed with a doubling of the population within 40 years.

Economy

Sévery was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming and fruit growing have some significance in the occupational structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In the village there is an oil mill, punching and mechanical workshops. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in Morges and Lausanne area.

Traffic

The community is located off of larger thoroughfares on a link road from Morges to L' Isle. The village itself has no access to public transport. The Pampigny Station on September 12 opened in 1896 narrow gauge railway line from L' Isle to Apple's Chemin de fer Bière -Apples- Morges is 0.5 km from the center.

History

The territory of Sévery was settled very early, this is proved by traces of a Roman villa and early medieval graves. The first written mention of the village took place in 979 under the name Siuiriaco. Later, the names Severiacum ( 1007), Syviriez ( 1453) and Syvirie, Sivirier and Siviriez published. The place name comes from the Latin personal name Sever (i ) us.

The municipal area, the Abbey of Saint -Maurice had rich land. Since the Middle Ages the village belonged to the rule Cossonay. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 Sévery came under the administration of the bailiwick of Morges. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Cossonay.

Attractions

The medieval church of Saint- Maurice in 1911 was extensively restored. Sévery owned two castles. The a castle, north of the village was first mentioned already in 1007 and was one of the oldest castles in the Vaud area. The decayed over time to ruin building was used as a quarry and in 1885 completely worn away. South of the village was built in the 13th century, another castle, which had the outline of a Savoyard Carré. From this Gothic castle, a round tower is still there, the rest was destroyed in 1765 and the building material for the construction of today's pleasure palace ( 1768) used.
