Shire of Macedon Ranges

The Shire is located in the heart of downtown Victoria and bordered to the south of the capital Melbourne. The area includes the following major towns: Gisborne, Kyneton, Lancefield, Macedon, Malmsbury, Mount Macedon, Riddells Creek, New Gisborne, Romsey and Woodend. The seat of the City Council is located in Kyneton in the west of the LGA.

The area around the 1013 m high Mount Macedon was inhabited already in the 30s of the 19th century. Above all sheep farmers settled here. During the gold rush, it was a transit area between the capital, Melbourne and the Western goldfields around Bendigo and Castlemaine. The Camels Hump, one of the highest peaks of the Macedon Ranges, is a popular destination for climbers. A much -frequented tourist destination is also the Hanging Rock in Woodend, an interesting rock formation of rare volcanic rock with altitude hiking trails.

In Lancefield in the east of the Shire is a marker of the geographical center of the State of Victoria.

Management

The Macedon Ranges Shire Council has nine members, who are elected by the residents of the three Wards. Each of these three areas - East, West and South - provides three Councillor. From the circle of Councillor also the Mayor ( Mayor ) of the Council recruited.
