Testico

Testico ( Ligurian: Testego ) is a municipality in the hinterland of Andora near the Ligurian coast in the province of Savona ( Italy) with 208 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) to 19.7 km ².

Geography

The municipality is part of the Comunità Montana Ingauna. Testico is 68 km from the provincial capital Savona, above the Val Merula, at an altitude of 470 m at the headquarters of the Comune. The difference in elevation within the municipality is located, according to the district between a minimum of 180 m and a maximum of 953 m.

The municipality consists of the fractions ( districts ) Ginestro and Poggio Bottaro. The neighboring municipalities are Stellanello ( SV), Casanova Lerrone ( SV), Cesio (IM), Chiusanico (IM).

History

According to recent research results of the hamlet Testico was already mentioned in the Roman Empire under the term Castrum. In the 13th century the place in 1398 fell under the ancient term Texticum, in the possession of the Genoese Doria family.

Attractions

• The Castell of Testico. Dell'Antico maniero difensivo, was built by the Genoese Doria family in the 13th century. From the building today only a few remnants of the ruins on the mountain Arosio can be found.
• Church of Peter and Paul. Built in the 17th century in Baroque style
• Chapel Assunzione. The chapel is located on the road that leads to Passo Vellego Ginestro.
• Cappella della Presentazione di Maria al Tempio. The chapel is situated in the district Ginestro ( Poggio ) and has been restored in 1998.

Culture

• Sagra delle fritters, la prima meta di (in the first half of August )
• Sagra delle castagne, la prima di domenica (first Sunday in October)

Economy

The economy is characterized primarily by agriculture and here mainly through the cultivation of olives.

Traffic

Testico Located on the Strada Provinciale 13 ( SP13 ), which leads on the one hand by Andora, on the other hand, to the Passo del Ginestro as well as on the SP 18 to Alassio. The place is not directly accessible by highway. The nearest motorway exit is Andora A10.

The nearest railway station is in Andora and Alassio on the main line Ventimiglia - Genova. Plus there are regional trains from Ventimiglia and Savona. Testico is accessible from both train stations by bus.
