Valliguières

Valliguières is a commune with 538 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Gard of the Languedoc -Roussillon region.

Geography

The municipality is located eight kilometers from Remoulins and 20 km from Bagnols -sur -Cèze away.

History

Due to its location Valliguières has always been an important stop for travelers. Two markers of the Roman road Nîmes -Pont -Saint- Esprit are obtained in a hostel. In the hamlets Gassargues and Andézon were found remains of Roman villas. Between the 9th and the 12th century, the village moved from the plains to the hills. The name derives from Valle Aqua, Valley of the water from. 1392, during the Hundred Years' War, were built around the village protection walls. 1702 the village was affected by Camisard revolt, 1720 from the plague.
