Victor Wickersham

Victor Eugene Wickersham (* February 9, 1906 in Lone Rock, Baxter County, Arkansas, † March 15, 1988 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma ) was an American politician. Between 1941 and 1965 he represented several times the sixth and seventh election district of the state of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1915, Victor Wickersham came with his parents to Magnum in Greer County, Oklahoma. There he attended the public schools. Between 1924 and 1926 he was employed in the administration of Greer County; 1926 to 1935 he was bailiff at the city's District Court. From 1937 to 1938 he worked as a contractor in the construction industry, after which he was until 1941 worked in the insurance industry.

Politically Wickersham was a member of the Democratic Party. After the death of Congressman Sam C. Massingale 1941, he was elected in the by-elections due in the seventh district of Oklahoma for his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives. After he was confirmed in 1942 and 1944 respectively, he was able to remain between 1 April 1941 and January 3, 1947 Congress. In 1946, he was not nominated by his party. His seat went for a legislature to Preston E. Peden. But two years later he managed again in the seventh district of the re- entry into the House of Representatives, where he remained for a re-election until January 3, 1953. At this point the seventh constituency was dissolved. Therefore, Wickersham candidate in the elections of 1952 in the sixth district of Oklahoma.

After his election victory he resolved on January 3, 1953 Toby Morris, whom he had beaten in the primaries, the House of Representatives and completed until January 3, 1957 two legislative periods, before he had to give Morris his seat. After another victory in the elections of 1960 Wickersham was 1961-1965 again spend two terms in Congress. After he missed the 1964 nomination for re-election, ended his time in Congress on January 3, 1965.

After his time in Congress Wickersham worked in the real estate industry and in insurance. He was also the investment adviser. From 1971 to 1979 he was a deputy in the House of Representatives from Oklahoma. This mandate he held since February 9, 1988 until his death on 15 March 1988 from again.
