Virpi Sarasvuo

Virpi Kuitunen Katriina ( born May 20, 1976 in Kangasniemi ) is a former Finnish cross-country skier.

Career

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in their native Finland, Lahti, she won the gold medal in the pursuit. Shortly after, she was found guilty of doping and topped with a two -year ban, she was allowed to keep her title, however, as the doping test after the World Cup race was negative. At the World Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf, she won the silver medal in the 30 km race in classic technique. On January 15, 2006, she won with the Finnish relay (together with Aino Kaisa Saarinen - Riitta -Liisa Lassila and Kaisa Varis ) the World Cup race in Val di Fiemme.

At the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin, she won in the team sprint together with Aino Kaisa Saarinen - the bronze medal. A great success of her career was the victory in the Tour de Ski 2007 Marit before Bjørgen and Valentina Schewschenko.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo 2007 she won each of the gold medal in the 30 km classic, freestyle team sprint (together with Riitta -Liisa Roponen ) and with the Finnish team in the 4x5 km relay (together with Aino - Kaisa Saarinen, Riitta Pirjo -Liisa Roponen and Manninen ), and the bronze medal in the sprint, which was held in the classical technique.

With the success of the sprint in Lahti on March 10, 2007, Virpi Kuitunen secured for the first time in their career victory in the World Cup. The following winter she could defend the title in the World Cup successfully.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec Kuitunen could together with Aino Kaisa Saarinen - defend her title superior in the team sprint, a day later she was able to get with the Finnish team the gold medal.

Together with Pirjo Muranen, Riitta -Liisa Roponen and Aino Kaisa Saarinen - Kuitunen reached at the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010 the bronze medal in the relay race 4 x 5 km.
