Walter Plaikner

Walter Plaikner ( born October 24, 1951 in Kien, South Tyrol ) is an Italian former luger.

He won at the 1972 Olympics in Sapporo with Paul Hildgartner the gold medal for Italy in the doubles. Already in the previous year they had become world champions in Olang and European champion in Imst; 1974 in Imst they were European champions again.

Today Walter Plaikner is luge coach. In his long career, he was responsible for various teams; inter alia, also the Italian with the doubles world champions Gerhard Plankensteiner and Oswald Haselrieder.
