Yamagata (Nagano)

Yamagata ( Japanese:山形 村, -mura ) is a village in Higashichikuma -gun in Nagano Prefecture on the main Japanese island of Honshu.

Geography

Yamagata has an area of ​​24.94 km ² and 8,468 inhabitants (as of 1 February 2010). It is located in the southwest of Matsumototals at the foot of the Hida Mountains. Adjacent municipalities are the big city ( shi) Matsumoto and which also belongs to the Higashichikuma -gun Asahi village.

Due to its proximity to the cities of Matsumoto and Shiojiri a steady population growth and thus a creeping urbanization has taken place in recent years in Yamagata. Commercial areas with major shopping centers have settled here in recent years. It is predicted that Yamagata developed into a sort of " bedroom community " for Matsumoto and Shiojiri.

History

In the Edo period, the area was in and around Yamagata to Takato -han. As a modern administrative unit, it was established on April 1, 1889 and has not participated in any local government reform today.

Traffic

By Yamagata neither railway lines lead nor a national road. The nearest railway stations are Shiojiri and Hata. A bus service connects the village center with the Matsumoto station.

Educational institutions

Yamagata has a primary school and together with the adjacent Asahi a middle school.
