You've Got to Hide Your Love Away ( dt, 'You have to hide ' your love) is a song by British band The Beatles in 1965, it appeared on the album Help. !. You've Got to Hide was written Your Love Away by John Lennon and the indication of the author Lennon / McCartney published.
Background
Lennon processed in the song a love relationship. Supposedly, the song should treat a relationship to gay Lennon Beatles manager Brian Epstein, who took a holiday together to Spain in April 1963. The relationship was denied by both, however, during the Beatles biographer Hunter Davies in 2006 in his book The Beatles, Football and Me that Lennon admitted against him, to have had a brief relationship with Epstein.
You've Got to Hide Your Love Away is one of the first songs that the Beatles recordings only on acoustic instruments, which can be attributed to the influence of Bob Dylan.
Recording
You've Got to Hide Your Love Away Beatles took the afternoon of February 18, 1965 at London's Abbey Road Studios. Producer was George Martin, assisted by Norman Smith. A total of nine takes were recorded, of which only two were complete. At the end of the session booked for this flutist John Scott took on ever an alto and a tenor recorder. It was the first time that an additional musician was booked for receiving a Beatle song (1962 played Andy White instead of Ringo Starr on Love Me Thursday).
Publication
You've Got to Hide Your Love Away was released on August 6, 1965 on the album Help! and was also seen in the eponymous film. On single the song was not released. An alternative take was released in 1996 as part of the Anthology series.

Since 1965, many cover versions of the song were released, including the Beach Boys, Joe Cocker, Keane, Travis, Oasis, Sean Lennon, Elvis Costello, Chris Cornell or Eddie Vedder. An almost simultaneously published with the Beatles version version of The Silkie on their production, the Beatles were involved in 1965 reached number ten on the Billboard Hot 100
