Zuglio

Zuglio ( Zui Friulian ) is a Northeast Italian municipality ( comune ) in the province of Udine in Friuli Venezia Giulia with 602 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012). The municipality is situated approximately 60 kilometers south of Udine in Carnia at But and belongs to the Comunità Montana della Carnia.

History

The present settlement rests on the antique Roman community Iulium Carnicum from the first century BC. A Roman consecration stone with the name of the Celtic tribes of Saevaten and Laiancer was found here. In the period 381-480 here existed a bishopric ( Iulium Carnicum ). Since 1967, it is the titular Iulium Carnicum.
