Amaro, Friuli

Amaro ( Friulian: Damar ) is a municipality with 840 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Udine, region Friuli- Venezia Giulia.

The village lies at an altitude of 296 m above sea level. The area of ​​the municipality covers 33 km ².

Geography

It is the first of 28 communities encountered as soon as one comes from the province of Udine to Carnia. A popular saying goes that Carnia would be much sweeter, the first village not so bitter ( " amaro " in Italian ) would be. The village lies at the foot of the mountain Amariana ( 1,905 m ), while in the south side of the river Tagliamento of Mount San Simeone ( 1,505 m) rises. The municipality has no districts.

Religious area

  • The parish church of St. Nicholas, built 1889-1897 to designs by the architect Girolamo d' Gemoneser Aronco, to replace the previous church from the 15th century, which had been extended several times and fashioned in the 17th and 18th centuries, the latter end however, was torn down, as they no longer offered the people enough space. Been preserved from the old building to the present day are on the north side of the portal and a few other tracks.
