- February: Thomas Mann completed the novel Royal Highness. Published the work is first in the Neue Rundschau and finally in October in the S. Fischer Verlag.
- Spring: The Diary novel Jakob von Gunten by Robert Walser is published in the publishing house of Bruno Cassirer in Berlin. The criticisms fall out very differently.
