1985 World Snooker Championship
World Champion was the Northern Irishman Dennis Taylor, who won the title for the first time, after he had already been in the 1979 final. His opponent was the Englishman Steve Davis, who had won the title in the previous two years. The final was held at the registry from 17:17 until the last black ball before the last frame and is the scarcest date of the final World Snooker Championships at all.
With a number of times, 18.5 million television viewers, it made several records in the UK:
- The highest ratings for a sporting event at that time
- The highest ratings for the BBC 2
- The highest ratings for a transfer after midnight.

Final
In the final, Davis had the significantly better start and led after the first session 7-0. In the second session, however, Taylor was able to make up ground and came back the gap to 9:7. The third session was balanced ( 4:4 ), so Davis went into the final session with a 13:11 lead. There he could already sell at 17:15, but Taylor forced the decision frame using Breaks of 42 and 57 points.
The key frame lasted unusually long 68 minutes ultimately came Taylor at the registry of 62:44 for Davis at the table and punched brown, blue and pink. This was at the registry of 62:59 clear that the last black ball would decide frame and match. Taylor initially failed just when trying to punch the last blacks as cross -double, but he left no easy push for Davis. This therefore opted for a safety, then left out some difficult hole tests in the result of both Davis and Taylor. Finally, Davis missed a comparatively good opportunity to punch the black, leaving Taylor a relatively simple shock which this used to frame and win the match.
