Amecameca is a municipality in the Mexican state of México. It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México, the metropolitan region around Mexico City. The seat of the municipality and the largest town in the municipality is Amecameca de Juárez, the nearest large towns are San Pedro and San Antonio Nexapa Zoyatzingo. The municipality had in the year 2010 48.421 inhabitants, its surface area is 189.9 km ².

Geography

Amecameca lies to the east of the state of Mexico, 45 km south-west of Mexico City.

The municipality is bordered to the west by the Municipalities and Ayapango Juchitepec, to the south by the Municipalities Atlautla and Ozumba, on the east by the state of Puebla and in the north Tlalmanalco.
