The (aka Interlagos circuit, dt: " between the lakes " ) Autódromo José Carlos Pace is a motorsport race track in Brazil. The race track is located about twelve miles outside of São Paulo city center in the district Parelheiros. The area is also known by the racetrack Interlagos.

History

1938 started as a project for urban development, the race Interlagos circuit was opened on 12 May 1942. There were motorcycle and car races. In 1966, the expansion began at a modern track and it was an eight -kilometer course and the infrastructure necessary for international racing events. 1973, the first Brazilian Grand Prix was held in Formula 1 on this route. Was won by Emerson Fittipaldi in a Lotus. From 1981 to 1989 Interlagos lost the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Brazil to Rio de Janeiro. Thus, the meaning declined sharply.

Since 1990, the Grand Prix will take place again at Interlagos, but the course was altered and shortened.
