Bretagne (Territoire de Belfort)

Brittany ( formerly German board or Bretten ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté. She is one of 14 member communities of the Communauté de Communes du Bassin de la Bourbeuse.

Geography

Bretagne is located on 350 m altitude, about twelve kilometers east-southeast of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the lowlands of the Burgundian Gate, increased slightly south of the wide valley of the Ruisseau de Saint- Nicolas, in the here Suarcine flows, across from Montreux -Chateau.

The area of ​​4.67 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the weakly in relief landscape in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The northern boundary runs mostly along the Ruisseau de Saint- Nicolas, who winds up with meanders through a wide valley. Below the confluence of the Madeleine, the waters given the name Bourbeuse. History

Is first mentioned Brittany in 1365. In the mid -14th century, the village came under the suzerainty of the Habsburg and belonged to this rule Montreux. Together with the Sundgau came Brittany with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793, the village belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France.

Population

With 250 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) Brittany is one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 272 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Brittany was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), fish farming and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration Belfort.

The village is located off the major road links on a secondary road that leads from Delle Fontaine. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about eleven miles. Further road links exist with Brebotte, Grosne and Chavannes -les- Grands.
