Buc (Territoire de Belfort)

Buc ( formerly German Birr ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Buc is located at 372 m above sea level, about six kilometers west-southwest of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the hills west of Belfort, in the extreme west of the department, in a wide opening between the heights of the Bois du Mont in the southeast and the Brisée in the northwest.

The area of ​​2.44 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating landscape in the western part of the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Buc, which is on average 380 m. It is used as arable and meadow land for agricultural purposes. The village stream of Buc drains the area south of the Lizaine for Allan to Montbéliard. In the forest area Chaufour northeast of the village is the Etang du Paquis. To the southeast, the municipality's area extends over a gently rising slope down to the broad ridge of the Bois du Mont, on the 461 meters, the highest elevation of Buc is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Buc are Châlonvillars and Essert in the north, Urcerey in the east, the south and Échenans Mandrevillars in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Buc end of the 12th century under the name of Bures. From a later time, the designations bus and but come. First, standing in the sphere of influence of the Lords of Montbeliard, Buc reached the mid 14th century under the suzerainty of the Habsburg and belonged to the rule Belfort. Together with the Sundgau came the village with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Population

With 308 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Buc is one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the region between 160 and 200 people, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s.

Attractions

The Church of the Nativity of Mary ( Eglise de la Sainte Vierge de la Nativity ) was built in 1718 and has a rich interior, including an altar from the time it was built. The old town is characterized by different farmhouses in the traditional style of the Franche -Comté from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Economy and infrastructure

Buc was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
