Recouvrance, Territoire de Belfort

Recouvrance ( formerly Ruggenfrans German ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Recouvrance is located on 347 m above sea level, about eleven miles southeast of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The scattered settlement extends in the lowlands of the Burgundian Gate, in the valley of the brook ecrevisse shortly before the opening to the wide valley of the Bourbeuse.

The area of ​​1.50 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The central part of the area is traversed in an east-west direction from the valley of the ecrevisse, which provides for the drainage of the Bourbeuse to Allaine. This almost 500 m wide trough is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which is on average 375 m. It is mostly covered with arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas. In the Valley of ecrevisse and in the hollows of the plateau there are three ponds that were created for fish farming. To the south, the municipality's area extends over the plateau up to the edge of the Bois Grove Lachat. Here the highest elevation of Recouvrance is achieved with 382 m.

Neighboring communities of Recouvrance are Brebotte the west and north, the east, and Grosne Froidefontaine in the south.

History

The first mention in writing Recouvrance in 1105 under the name Recouvrantia in a deed of the priory Froidefontaine. From 1390 the name Recourance is preserved. Since the 12th century Recouvrance included in the County Ferrette and was part of the parish Grosne. In the first half of the 14th century the village came under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. The feud Recouvrance fell in 1454 to the Lords of Montjoie, who built a castle here. Together with the Sundgau Recouvrance came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793, the village belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France.

Attractions

Some farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries in traditional Franche-Comté style have been preserved. Moreover, an old house was transferred to the museum from Nancray.

Population

With 74 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Recouvrance is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 82 people were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Recouvrance was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), fish farming and forestry embossed village. The water power of the ecrevisse was formerly used for the operation of a mill. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major road links on a secondary road that leads from Brebotte after Grosne. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 13 kilometers.
