Dorans

Doran is a municipality in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Doran's is located on 362 m above the sea, about six kilometers south of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the Burgundy gate, in a wide opening to the west of the Valley of Savoureuse, on the eastern edge of the hills of Grand Bois.

The area of ​​3.77 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The eastern border is in the midst of about a kilometer wide valley of Savoureuse, which provides for the drainage south to Allan. In the valley there is also the waterway of the Canal de la Haute -Saône, a side branch of the Rhine- Rhone Canal.

From the valley floor, which is on average 340 m, the community area extends westward into the elongated trough of Doran. This is surrounded by several hills which are composed partly with forest, some with arable and meadow land. In the north, the height Les Cerisiers is (402 m ) in the west of Grand Bois ( to 410 m), in the southwest, the height of La Verpillière, on the 427 m, the highest elevation of Doran is achieved, and to the southeast of the Bois the Camouchots. The area around the fort of La Verpillière belongs to a military area.

Neighboring communities of Doran's are Argiésans and Botans in the north, Sevenans in the east, the south and Bermont Brevilliers and Banvillars in the West.

History

Is first mentioned by Doran in 1189 under the name Daurans. First, standing in the sphere of influence of the Lords of Montbeliard, Doran arrived mid-14th century under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau came the village with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 to the French crown. Since 1793 Doran belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. From the mid- 70s of the 19th century Fort La Verpillière was built, part of the mounting ring of Belfort. Since 1998, Doran's is part of the municipal association Communauté d' Agglomà Belfortaine.

Attractions

Doran has a small chapel, but the parish Bermont connected. The old town is characterized by different farmhouses in the traditional style of the Franche -Comté from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Population

With 557 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Doran is one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had been in the first half of the 20th century, mostly in the range between 200 and 270 people, a strong population growth has been recorded since the early 1970s. Since then, the population has more than doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Doran was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are now several companies of local small businesses. Meanwhile, the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in urban Belfort and Montbéliard.

The village has good transport links. It is located on a secondary road that leads from Bermont after Banvillars. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of about two kilometers. Further road links exist with Botans and Sevenans.
