Thiancourt

Thiancourt is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Thiancourt is located on 363 m above sea level, two kilometers north of Delle and about 15 kilometers east of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village extends slightly increased on the western edge of the valley of the Allaine, in the lowlands of the Burgundian Gate, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​2.67 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The eastern boundary runs along the Allaine, with many windings through a 1 km wide valley floor ( 355 m) here flows to the north. From the river, the municipality's area extends westward across the flat alluvial plain and the subsequent gently rising slope of Thiancourt up to the height of the Champs Montants (422 m) that is predominantly covered with arable and meadow land. Further west, followed by a trough and the vast forest area Les Corbières. Here the highest elevation of Thiancourt is achieved with 424 m.

Neighboring communities of Thiancourt are Grandvillars the northwest, Joncherey in the northeast, southeast, and dent in Fêche -l'Église in the southwest.

History

Is first mentioned Thiancourt in 1303 under the name Thecort. However, remnants of a Merovingian necropolis dating from the 7th century indicate a much earlier settlement of the area. In the first half of the 14th century the village came under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau it came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Thiancourt that always was at the limits of the dominions of the Counts of Montbéliard and the prince-bishops of Basel, belonged to the fief Grandvillars and also owned a castle, which was destroyed in 1830. Since 1793 Thiancourt belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France.

Population

With 261 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Thiancourt one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area of ​​135-165 people, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Thiancourt was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
