Fontaine (Territoire de Belfort)

Fontaine ( formerly German Brunn ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté. It is capital of the canton in the Arrondissement Belfort Fontaine.

Geography

Fontaine sits 363 meters above sea level, nearly seven miles east-northeast of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The former village street lines extending in the Burgundian Gate, on the plateau in the foothills of the Vosges, in the wide valley of the Ruisseau de Saint -Nicolas.

The area of ​​6.96 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the weakly in relief landscape in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The central part of the area is traversed in a north-south direction from the valley of the Ruisseau de Saint- Nicolas, which has a width of about two kilometers. The creek drains the area of the Bourbeuse to Allaine. The level in the foothills of the Vosges is on average 360 m. It is mostly covered with arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas. To the east of the municipality extends to the bottom of the creek Loutre. In the west, the municipality's area expands in the Grove Fahy. Here the highest elevation of Fontaine is achieved with 378 m.

Neighboring communities of Fontaine Larivière and Vauthiermont in the north, Reppe and Chavannes -sur- l'Étang in the east, and Foussemagne Frais in the south and Phaffans and Lacollonge in the West.

History

The name Fontanis appear as early as the 12th century. However, only applies the mention of 1441 for the present village assured. First, standing in the sphere of influence of the Lords of Montbeliard, Fontaine reached the mid 14th century under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. It belonged to the rule Montreux, was in possession of Reinach family from 1560. Together with the Sundgau Fontaine came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793, the village belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. Since 1997 Fontaine is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Tilleul.

Attractions

The Exaltation of the Cross Church ( l' Exaltation de la Sainte -Croix ) was rebuilt in 1788. In the village square, the lime tree of Turenne, which is named after Marshal Turenne, who came here at the turn of 1674/75. It is probably more than 700 years old.

Population

With 619 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Fontaine is one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1886 401 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Fontaine was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. It was the site of the airfield Belfort -Fontaine (1914 opening ), which was abandoned in 1986. Since 1992, construction on the site of the Aéroparc, a large industrial and commercial zone. Here many small businesses in the transport industry, the apparatus engineering, the automotive industry, logistics companies and distribution centers as well as metal and plastics processing industry have settled.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the secondary road that leads from Montreux -Chateau by Lachapelle- sous- Rougemont. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about four kilometers. Further road links exist with Lacollonge and Foussemagne.
