Rougegoutte

Rougegoutte is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Rougegoutte is located on 451 m above sea level, two kilometers south-east of Giromagny and about eleven miles north of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located at the southern foot of the Vosges, on the edge of the basin of Giromagny, which extends between the Vosges Mountains, the hills of the Forêt de Roppe and the Montagne de Salbert, at the mouth of the village Bach in the Rosemontoise. It is located in the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

The area of ​​8.07 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the area of ​​the Vosges foothills. The southern part of the area is occupied by the plateau at Vogesenfuß, which is on average 450 m. It is partly consisted of arable and meadow land, partly by forest. The area is drained by the Rosemontoise that for Savoureuse flows parallel to the south and only north of Belfort opens into this. On the plateau there are several ponds that were once created for fish farming. On the south of the municipality spell ranges in the forest area of ​​the Forêt de Vaivre.

To the north- east, the municipality area extends into the hollow and the headwaters of the village Bach. Densely wooded slopes rise to the heights of Fayé and the Pointe des Roches in the southern Vosges. Here the highest elevation of Rougegoutte is achieved with 910 m. These heights are among the flung to the south hills of Baerenkopfes.

To Rougegoutte at the lower southwestern slope include the hamlet of Le Bringard (551 m) of the Pointe des Roches as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Rougegoutte are Vescemont in the north, Grosmagny in the east, the south and Chaux Giromagny in the West.

History

First mentioned in writing in the village is 1196, when Pope Celestine III. the chapter of Saint- Maimboeuf in Montbeliard the possession of the Church of Rougegoutte confirmed. The parish of Rougegoutte comprised a majority of the settlements in the Basin of Giromagny. First, standing in the sphere of influence of the Counts of Montbéliard, the village mid-14th century came under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. It belonged to the reign Rosemont. Together with the Sundgau Rougegoutte came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793 it belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. Attractions

The church Saint -Georges in 1724 rebuilt in a slightly elevated position on the edge of the plane and has a rich interior. Many traditional style houses from the 17th and 18th centuries have been preserved in the old village. In the village square there is a 400 year old lime tree.

Population

With 1011 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Rougegoutte one of the smaller communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 1450 people were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the beginning of the 1990s again. The settlement area of Rougegoutte has grown together with those of Giromagny and Vescemont.

Economy and infrastructure

Rougegoutte has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. During the 19th and 20th century it different industries settled.
