Lachapelle-sous-Rougemont

Lachapelle- sous- Rougemont ( formerly German Welsch Kappel ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Lachapelle- sous- Rougemont is located at 378 m above sea level, about 14 kilometers northeast of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The former village street lines extends to the north of the Burgundian Gate, on the plateau in the foothills of the Vosges, in the wide valley on both sides of the Ruisseau de Saint -Nicolas.

The area of ​​4.89 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the weakly in relief landscape in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The central part of the area is traversed in a north-south direction from the valley of the Ruisseau de Saint- Nicolas, which has a width of about one kilometer. The creek drains the area of the Bourbeuse to Allaine. The level in the foothills of the Vosges is on average 390 m. It is mostly covered with arable and meadow land, but also shows some of larger forest areas. In hollows are several ponds that were created for fish farming. History

Is first mentioned Lachapelle- sous- Rougemont in 1214. It belonged to the rule Rougemont- le -Château. Middle of the 14th century came Lachapelle- sous- Rougemont under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. Together with the Sundgau came the village with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793 it belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. The former seminary in 1873, converted into a free College and was attended mainly by students from the then German Alsace. Lachapelle- sous- Rougemont was the site of a brewery ( 1835-1962 ) and of metal-working industry ( 1893-1961 ). Therefore, the place in 1914 connected by a narrow gauge railway with Belfort, but this was shut down again during the Second World War. Today Lachapelle- sous- Rougemont is affiliated with 13 other municipalities for municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Sous- Vosgien.

Population

With 572 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Lachapelle- sous- Rougemont is one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 810 people were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded in recent years.

Economy and infrastructure

Lachapelle- sous- Rougemont has long been a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), fish farming and forestry embossed village.
