Dewa Province

Dewa (出 羽 国Japanese, Dewa no kuni ), also known as Ushu (羽 州), is a province of Japan. Today are in the area, the Yamagata Prefecture and Akita Prefecture which (except the cities Kazuno and Kosaka ).

Dewa was split off from the province of Echigo 708 and then expanded gradually to the north, while the domestic in northern Honshu Ainu were pushed back by the Japanese. By the Heian period it was called with the same spelling province Ideha.

In the Sengoku period was the southern part of the Province of the Mogami clan, and held the northern of the Akita. Both families had fought in the Battle of Sekigahara for Ieyasu.

In the Meiji period the province was (羽 前 国, dt " front Dewa " ) (羽 后 国, dt "Behind - Dewa " ) split and Ugo in the provinces Uzen.

The Gassan -jinja and the Ideha -jinja are both shrines of the Three Mountains of Dewa.

The First Shrine ( ichi no miya ) - in the sense of supreme shrine - the province was the Ōmonoimi -jinja. The dogs ( main shrine ) is located on the top of Chokai -san and at the feet of the two kuchi no miya ( satomiya, dt " village shrine ", meaning " from the village more accessible " ) Fukura (吹 浦) and Warabioka (蕨 冈 ). Both were arguing about being the first shrine to the Tokugawa shogunate to Ōmonoimi -jinja stipulated on the mountain top as the First Shrine of the province. The Second Shrine of the province was the Kinowa -jinja (城 轮 神社), a sessha of Ōmonoimi -jinja. The Third Shrine of the province was the Omonoimi -jinja.
