Éamon Ó Cuív

Éamon Ó Cuív ( born June 23, 1950 in Dublin) is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician and since 2010 Minister for Social Protection.

Biography

Éamon Ó Cuív, a son of the renowned philologist and historian Brian Ó Cuív, is the grandson of Éamon de Valera, the long-time Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) and President of Ireland. His uncle Vivion de Valera was also the House Deputy ( Teachta Dala ). In addition, he is a cousin of politician Síle de Valera.

He initially worked as a business manager and then began his political career in 1989 as a member of the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ). There he represented until 1992, the group education and culture. After he was elected in 1992 as a member of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) and is representing the constituency of Galway West ever since.
