Egil Gjelland

Egil Gjelland ( born November 12, 1973 in Voss ) is a former Norwegian biathlete.

Life and career

Since 1995, mixes the highly secure relay runners Gjelland with the World Cup and have had relatively good success. His previous best performance is that of the 2000/2001 season with a seventh place. Good individual results are indeed always to be expected from him, but superior placements remained until recently in short supply.

In its most successful season in winter 2000/2001 Gjelland could run three times on the podium, but he celebrated his first victory until 17 December 2004 in pursuit of Östersund. He completed a great career, with the highlight of the Olympic victory in the biathlon relay in 2002. Together with Ole Einar Bjørndalen Halvard Hanevold and Frode Andresen he won this race sovereign, but many people feel that Gjelland the decisive factor in the relay had. 2005 Gjelland won at the World Championships gold in the relay. In the 2006/2007 season, he started in the European Cup, where it has constant placements boast to place around 10.

Gjelland took over after the end of the season 2009/2010 the post of head coach for the Norwegian biathletes and thus succeeds Knut Tore Berland. He previously coached since the end of his playing days already the second team.

Married is Gjelland with the biathlete Ann- Elen Skjelbreid, the sister of Liv Grete Poirée. Since October 2004 he is the father of a daughter.
