Enoch W. Eastman

Enoch Worthen Eastman ( born April 15, 1810 in Deerfield, Rockingham County, New Hampshire; † January 9, 1885 in Eldora, Iowa ) was an American politician. Between 1864 and 1866 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Iowa.

Career

Enoch Eastman initially received a rather poor education. He earned enough money to improve his education by hard work. After studying law and qualifying as a lawyer in New Hampshire, he began to work in this profession. In October 1844, he transferred his residence and his office to Burlington, Iowa. About Oskaloosa he came in the fall of 1857 Eldora. His law firm was very successful.

Politically he belonged until 1857 to the Democratic Party. Then he switched to the Republicans. In 1864 he was elected to the side of William M. Stone for Lieutenant Governor of Iowa. This post he held 1864-1866. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. One of his key policies was the formation of policy.

In 1883, Enoch Eastman was elected to the Senate from Iowa. This mandate he held until his death on January 9, 1885.
