John K. Valentine

John Kalbach Valentine ( born February 3, 1904 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, † October 12, 1950 in Centerville, Appanoose County, Iowa ) was an American politician. Between 1937 and 1939 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Iowa.

Career

In 1922, John Valentine graduated from Centerville High School. He then studied at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Iowa and his 1929 was admitted to the bar he began in his father's law firm in Centerville to work in this profession. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. Between 1933 and 1935 he sat in the Senate of Iowa.

1936 Valentine was elected to the side of Nelson G. Kraschel for Lieutenant Governor of Iowa. This post he held 1937-1939. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1938 he was not re-elected. Between 1939 and 1940 he was United States Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa. 1940 failed his candidacy for the governorship of his state. During the Second World War he served in the United States Navy. John Valentine has worked in various positions for the Iowa Southern Utilities Company. In 1948 he became its vice president. He died on October 12, 1950 in Centerville, where he was also buried.
