James C. Milliman

James Cutler Milliman ( born January 28, 1847 at Saratoga County, New York, † January 21, 1933 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American politician. Between 1898 and 1902 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Iowa.

Career

James Milliman grew up in a poor environment. He earned his living by odd jobs. Since 1856 he lived in Iowa in the valley of the Missouri River. During the Civil War he served until 1864 in the army of the Union. Then he was wounded and was no longer suitable for military service. Later he became a member of the Veterans Association Grand Army of the Republic. In 1893 and 1894 he was the Deputy Head ( Senior Vice - Commander) in Iowa. After the Civil War, he graduated from Iowa State University. For eight years he was employed by the district administration of Harrison County as a recorder. In 1876 he was a founder of the Harrison County Bank. His main job was working in the credit and real estate business.

Politically Milliman joined the Republican Party. In 1894 he became a deputy in the House of Representatives from Iowa. In 1896 he was elected to the side of LM Shaw for Lieutenant Governor of Iowa. This post he held for a re-election 1898-1902. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. Milliman included the Commission of the State of Iowa for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition at. He later became Mayor of Logan. He died on January 21, 1933 in Santa Monica and was buried in Logan.
