John R. Needham

John R. Needham ( born December 18, 1824 in Washington Court House, Fayette County, Ohio; † July 9, 1868 ) was an American politician. Between 1862 and 1864 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Iowa.

Career

After studying law and qualifying as a lawyer John Needham began to work in Ohio in his profession. Later he moved to the Mahaska County, Iowa, where he edited the newspaper The Oskaloosa Herald. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. He also became a member of the Senate of Iowa.

1862 Needham was elected to the side of Samuel Jordan Kirkwood for Lieutenant Governor of Iowa. This post he held 1862-1864. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. He was subsequently re-elected to the Senate there. This mandate he held until his death on July 9, 1868.
