Matt Parrott

Mathies " Matt" Parrott ( born May 11, 1837 in Schoharie County, New York, † April 21, 1900 in Battle Creek, Michigan ) was an American politician. Between 1896 and 1898 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Iowa.

Career

Matt Parrott attended the public schools of his home. Then he began to work in the newspaper industry. Together with a partner, he acquired in February 1869, the newspaper Iowa State Reporter, Waterloo. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. He was a member of the council of Waterloo. Between 1877 and 1881 he was mayor of that city. In 1885 he was elected to the State Senate.

1895 Parrott was elected to the side of Francis M. Drake for Lieutenant Governor of Iowa. This post he held 1896-1897. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1897, he ran unsuccessfully for the office of the Governor of Iowa. He died on April 21, 1900 in Battle Creek and was buried in Waterloo. With his wife, Francis, he had three sons.
