Roger Jepsen

Roger William Jepsen ( born December 23, 1928 in Cedar Falls, Black Hawk County, Iowa ) is a former American politician ( Republican). He represented the state of Iowa in the U.S. Senate.

Life

Roger Jepsen, son of Emil Jepsen and Esther Sorensen graduated in 1953 as Master at Arizona State University in Tempe. He is married since 1958 with Ann Dee Jepsen (nee Delaney ) and has six children. In the period 1946-1947 he served in the army. From 1948 to 1960 he was in the reserve.

He was manager of the Connecticut General Life Insurance Co., Davenport. His economic knowledge he gained from 1973 as president of the HEP Marketing Co. of Davenport and as Vice President of Agridustrial Electronics Co. of Davenport. From 1962 to 1965 he was supervisor of Scott County, from 1966 to 1968 he was a member of the Senate of Iowa. Between 1968 and 1972 he acted as vice- governor of the state under Governor Robert D. Ray. He won in 1978, surprisingly, the election to the U.S. Senator for Iowa with 51.1 percent of the vote against the Democratic incumbent Dick Clark. During his Senate between 1979 and 1984 he was a member of the Agriculture Committee, the Defence Committee and Economic Committee.

In April 1985, he was appointed by President Ronald Reagan as President of the Financial Market Supervision National Credit Union Administration Board. He held the post until 1993.

Today he lives with his family in Alexandria ( Virginia).
