Edward Joseph McManus

Edward Joseph McManus ( born February 9, 1920 in Keokuk, Iowa ) is a former American politician and lawyer. Between 1959 and 1961 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Iowa; then he became a federal judge.

Career

In 1940, Edward McManus graduated from the University of Iowa. After a subsequent law degree from the same university, he was admitted to the bar in 1942. During the Second World War, he served 1942-1946 as an officer in the Air Corps of the United States Navy. He then practiced law in Keokuk. From 1946 to 1955 he was also legal representatives of this city. He also headed from 1955 to 1962, based in Keokuk Coca Cola Botteling Company.

Politically, McManus joined the Democratic Party. Between 1955 and 1959 he was a member of the Senate of Iowa. In 1958 he was elected to the side of Herschel C. Loveless as Vice Governor of Iowa. This post he held 1959-1961. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1960, he ran unsuccessfully for the governorship. Between 1962 and 1985, was Chief Judge McManus ( Chief Justice ) at the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Iowa. This appointment necessitated his move from Keokuk to Cedar Rapids. In 1985, he went into retirement.
