Joy Corning

Joy Corning ( born September 7, 1932 in Bridgewater, Adair County, Iowa) is an American politician. Between 1991 and 1999 she was Deputy Governor of the State of Iowa.

Career

Joy Corning graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Then she hit as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. She was a member of the education committee of the city Cedar Falls and in the Senate of Iowa. Between 1981 and 1984 she headed the state agency Iowa Housing Finance Authority.

1990 Corning was elected to the side of Terry E. Branstad to the Deputy Governor of Iowa. This office she held for a re choice between 1991 and 1999. Yet she was Deputy Governor. She was the first Deputy Governor of the State of Iowa, who was chairman of the State Senate the same time. Since 1991, these two offices are separated by a constitutional reform.

In 1998, Joy Corning ran initially for the Office of the Governor of Iowa. For funding reasons, they broke this candidacy yet on during the Republican primaries. Within her party their political stance is considered moderate to liberal. She was a board member of the organization Planned Parenthood in Iowa, supports the right to abortion and fought for more rights for homosexuals.
