John Herriott

John Herriott ( born October 20, 1844 in Herriottsville, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, † September 24, 1918 in Des Moines, Iowa ) was an American politician. Between 1902 and 1907 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Iowa.

Career

John Herriott grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania and attended the public schools of his home. During the Civil War he served until September 1864, the army of the Union. In August 1865 he moved to a farm in Scott County, Iowa; In 1872 he moved to the city Stuart, where he operated a pharmacy and a bookstore.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party. Between 1878 and 1882 he was county treasurer in Guthrie County; 1894 to 1900 he served as Minister of Finance of the State of ( State Treasurer of Iowa ). In 1901, Herriott on the side of Albert B. Cummins was elected Lieutenant Governor of Iowa. This post he held 1902-1907. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he is no longer politically have appeared. He died on September 24, 1918 in Des Moines and was buried in Stuart.
