Jørgen Ingmann

Jørgen Ingmann - Pedersen ( born April 26, 1925 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish guitarist.

Career

As the second of three sons of a railway worker Ingmann began playing the violin at the age of 10. After school he started an apprenticeship in the printing industry, but saved a lot of his salary in order to buy a first guitar can. To the dismay of his father, he left the secure job and joined the orchestras of Borge Roger Henrichsen and Bertrand Bech.

During the German occupation of Denmark, he was engaged with Svend Asmussen, one of the most famous jazz musicians of Scandinavia. Ingmann was from 1945 to 1958 a member of the Orchestra of the Danish jazz violinist. On June 9, 1944 Ingmann was involved in the recorded music on shellac record on the songs That's My Weakness / How I'm Doin ', Hey Hey. This, his first participation in the recording studio, took honorable mention from Asmussen.

During this time learned Ingmann also the singer Grethe Clemmensen and married her in 1956. Late 1950 he made first with the Jörgen Ingmann quartet and then in a duo with his wife appearances.

His career as a solo guitarist ( Jørgen Ingmann and His Guitar ) began after Ingmann trick- shots of the U.S. guitarist Les Paul (actually: Lester Polsfuss ) had heard and such recordings wanted to try yourself. In January 1961 he published his version of the English number - one hits of Shadows Apache - who could not place in the U.S. - and made the instrumental to become an international hit. Among other things, he reached in the USA # 2 ( because his photograph was published there before recording the Shadows ) in Canada # 4 in Germany and 6th place financially most successful, however, was Ingmanns own composition Echo Boogie, to the B-side " Apache "was released. The recording was for years used the latest sporting review of Norddeutscher Rundfunk as the theme song of the show and also re-recorded in stereo in 1972.

Together with his wife took part in the Ingmann Euro Vision Song Contest 1963 and won with the "Jazz Waltz " Dansevise for the first time in Denmark. In the German version as the summer went by they came also in the German charts.

In 1964 he had represented to the composed by Stanislav Binicki Drina -Marsch another top 10 hit in Germany and until 1966 he was here in the charts. Then the Ingmanns made ​​as a duo on music especially for the Danish market, but were also seen by the end of the 60s and over again in different programs of ARD and ZDF German Television, as well as in radio.

1975 Jørgen Ingmann was divorced from his wife, whom he married again but in the 80s and who died in 1990. As a result, he was primarily active as a composer.
