L'Abergement

L' Abergement ( [ labɛʀʒəmɑ ], Provençal in the local dialect [ labɛrʣəmɛ ] ) is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

L' Abergement is located on 655 m above sea level. M., 12 km west-southwest of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The farming village extends to the foot of the Jura plateau between the Orbeebene and the first Jura chain.

The area of ​​5.7 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Vaud Jura. The communal land extends from the foot of the Jura plateau west over the steep slope up to the ridge of Suchet, on the southern slope with 1,460 m above sea level. M. the highest point of L' Abergement is achieved. Here there is an extensive Jura mountain meadows with the typical tall spruce trees that are either individually or in groups. A narrow tail extends into the catchment area of ​​the Jougnena west of Suchet. From the municipality surface 1997 accounted for 5% on settlements, 55 % of forest and shrubs and 40 % to agriculture.

At L' Abergement includes the hamlet Vailloud ( 749 m above sea level. M. ) on the lower slopes of the Suchet as well as some individual farms of the Jura heights. Neighboring communities of L' Abergement are Baulmes, Rances, Sergey, Les Clées and Lignerolle in the Canton of Vaud and Jougne in neighboring France.

Population

With 238 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) L' Abergement one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 96.6 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 2.1 % and 0.4 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of L' Abergement amounted in 1850 to 318 residents in 1900 to 227 inhabitants. A further population decline occurred until 1980 (146 inhabitants). Since then, an increasing trend was observed again.

Economy

L' Abergement is still a dominantly agricultural village, with the Jura foothills of agriculture predominate in the highlands of livestock and dairy farming. More jobs are available in a sawmill and in the local small businesses. In recent years, L' Abergement has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in Orbe or Yverdon.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares on the main road of Lignerolle after Baulmes. L' Abergement is connected by a postal car course, which runs from Orbe to Vallorbe to the network of public transport.

History

Since the Middle Ages L' Abergement was under the rule of Les Clées. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, L' Abergement came to Kastlanei Les Clées, which was placed under the bailiwick of Yverdon. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. After that, it was assigned to the district of Orbe.

Attractions

The parish church of L' Abergement was built in 1902. It has stained glass windows by the artist Eugène Grasset, which were actually designed for the Cathedral of Lausanne. In the center some characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
