Morelos is a municipality in the Mexican state of México. The municipality had the Census 2010 27.426 inhabitants, its surface area amounts to 236.5 km ².

Administrative headquarters of the Municipalities is San Bartolo Morelos.

Geography

Morelos is located in the central northwestern part of the State of Mexico, at an altitude of about 2700 m to 3360 m. The municipality consists of two unconnected parts, one is a larger, northern part of the capital and on the other hand a part of the San Lorenzo Malacota further south. In the municipality dominate agricultural land, over one-quarter of the Municipalities is forested.

The municipality borders the Municipalities of Morelos Villa del Carbon, Municipio Chapa de Mota, Atlacomulco, Timilpan, Jiquipilco and Jocotitlan.

Places

In the municipality there are 45 villages, six of which have more than 1,500 inhabitants. The largest town is Santa Clara de Juarez with 3,878 inhabitants, followed by Barrio Cuarto, San Lorenzo Malacota, San Sebastián Buenos Aires and San Marcos Tlazalpan. The administrative seat of San Bartolo Morelos with 1,737 inhabitants, only the sixth largest in the municipality.
