Olympia Theatre Dublin

The Olympia Theatre is a concert hall in Dame Street, one of the main roads in Dublin.

History

The Concert Hall Built in 1879, was originally called Star of Erin Music Hall. Two years later, in 1881, was renamed Dan Lowrey 's Music Hall. Already in 1889 there was with Dan Lowrey 's Palace of Varieties Neute a name for the building. From February to November 1897, the building was closed for renovation and conversion work and then opened as the Empire Palace Theatre. Finally, the concert hall was called The Olympia Theatre. For many years the concerts ran successfully until it finally had to close due to structural damage in November 1974. During production to West Side Story broke parts of the proscenium arch and the ceiling together. After the demolition of the building were excluded by the local council and the owner, a fund financed the renovation. The City Council completed the building then under monument protection. The theater has been restored and renovated so that it could be re-opened on 14 March 1977.

In November 2004, a truck drove into the front of the Olympia Theatre. Here, the building was damaged.
