Pahokee is a city in Palm Beach County in the U.S. state of Florida with 5,649 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

The city is located on the southeast shore the Okeechobeesees, about 70 kilometers west of West Palm Beach.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 5,649 inhabitants distributed to 2,002 households. The population density was 403.5 inh. / Km ². 28.9 % of the population were white, 56.1 % African American, 0.3% Native American and 0.3 % Asian Americans. 11.5% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.9% in different ethnic groups. 33.8 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 27.6 % of all households lived in 46.1 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 73.5 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 3.21 and the average family size is 3.77 people.

32.9 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.5% were 20-39 years old, 26.1% were 40-59 years old and 16.5 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 33 years. 51.1 % of the population were male and 48.9 % female.

The average annual income was $ 34,159, while 33.4 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 72.78 % of the population spoke Spanish 26.65 % and 0.57 % had a different mother tongue.

Through the city lead the U.S. Highways 98 and 441 and the Florida State Road 15 The nearest airport is the Palm Beach County Glades Airport just south of the city. The closest international airport is the Palm Beach Airport in West Palm Beach, about 65 km away.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 367 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were two rapes, 13 robberies, 52 injuries, 54 burglaries, 95 thefts, six car thefts and two arsons.
