Palm Beach Shores is a city in Palm Beach County in the U.S. state of Florida with 1,142 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

The city on the Atlantic Ocean is located on the southern tip of a barrier island, which is separated by the Intracoastal Waterway from the mainland. Just north of the city limits in Riviera Beach runs the Florida State Road A1A, about which one has the Blue Heron Bridge connection to the mainland.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 1,142 inhabitants distributed to 1,286 households. The population density was 1631.4 inh. / Km ². 97.6 % of the population were white, 1.1% African American, 0.2% Native American and 0.2 % Asian Americans. 0.5 % were members of other ethnic groups and 0.4 % of various ethnicities. 2.4% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 49.4 % of all households lived in 9.3 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 44.0 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 1.68 persons and the average family size is 2.30 people.

7.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 12.1% were 20-39 years old, 30.5% were 40-59 years old and 49.5 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 60 years. 50.6 % of the population were male and 49.4 % female.

The average annual income was $ 51,719, while 9.2% of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 91.10 % of the population spoke Spanish 5.61% and 3.29% had a different mother tongue.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 143 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the low range. There were 14 burglaries, 24 thefts and five car thefts.
