South Bay is a city in Palm Beach County in the U.S. state of Florida with 4,876 inhabitants ( 2010).
Geography
The city is located in the west of the county on the southern end of the Okeechobeesees.
Demographics
According to the 2010 census, the then 4,876 inhabitants distributed to 1,077 households. The population density was 696.6 inh. / Km ². 24.6 % of the population were white, 65.0 % African American, 0.2% Native American and 0.6 % Asian Americans. 7.8% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.9% in different ethnic groups. 23.2 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 28.8 % of all households lived in 48.2 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 79.0 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 3.40 persons and the average family size is 3.71 people.
22.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 36.2% were 20-39 years old, 30.8 % were 40-59 years old and 10.7 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 36 years. 68.7 % of the population were male and 31.3 % female.
The average annual income was $ 25,663, while 42.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 77.76 % of the population spoke Spanish 21.51 % and 0.73 % had a different mother tongue.

Through the city lead the U.S. Highway 27 and the Florida State Roads 25 and 80 The nearest airport is the Belle Glade State Municipal Airport in neighboring Belle Glade. The nearest international airport is 70 km east of Palm Beach airport in West Palm Beach.

The crime rate in 2010 was 408 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There was a rape, six robberies, 36 injuries, 72 burglaries, 74 thefts, three car thefts and two arsons.
