Highland Beach is a city in Palm Beach County in the U.S. state of Florida with 3,539 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

The city is located on a barrier island elongated along the Atlantic Ocean. It leads directly to the north of Delray Beach and in the west and south of Boca Raton. Due to the metropolitan area leads the Florida State Road A1A.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 3,539 inhabitants distributed to 3,564 households. The population density was 2722.3 inh. / Km ². 97.7 % of the population were white, 0.3% African American, 0.0% Native American and 0.7 % Asian Americans. 0.5 % were members of other ethnic groups and 0.7 % of various ethnicities. 3.6% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 63.7 % of all households lived in 5.4 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 55.7 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 1.74 persons and the average family size is 2.20 people.

5.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 6.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 21.8 % were 40-59 years old and 66.1 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 67 years. 47.1 % of the population were male and 52.9 % female.

The average annual income was $ 90,729, while 4.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 90.63 % of the population spoke German 3.26% and 6.11% had a different mother tongue.

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 77 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the low range. There was a rape, two injuries, seven burglaries, 31 thefts and car theft.
