Psalm 27
The 27th Psalm is a Psalm of David.
Structure
The Psalm can be divided into the following sections:
- Verse 1-3 EU: David expresses his deep confidence in God.
- Verse 4-6 EU: David's desire for communion with God.
- Verse 7-12 EU: David prays and pleads for help.
- Verse 13-14 EU: prompt to wait patiently for the Lord's help.
By some researchers, it is assumed that verses 1-6 and 7-14 originally constituted two separate psalms.
Dating
The content shows that the author was pursued by enemies (Ps. 27.2-3 EU), was excluded from the house of the Lord (Ps 27.4 EU), was about to depart from father and mother, (Ps 27, 10 EU), and slanders suffered (Ps 27,12 EU).
These notes fit especially on the stage of life of David, when he from King Saul in the forest of Haret fled ( cf. 1 Sam 21 1 Sam 22:1-5 EU and EU).
