Psalm 83

The 83rd Psalm ( Greek- count 82 ) is a Psalm of Asaph and belongs to the series of folk dirges. It has elements that belong to the style of the curse.

Dating

The theologian Rudolf Kittel dated the psalm to the events of 1 Macc 5 EU. There Judas Maccabeus moves to his victory over the Seleucid army, and after the restoration of the temple against the hostile surrounding nations to war.

The German orientalist Georg Heinrich August Ewald proposes to date the psalm at the time of the Berlin Wall went Nehemiah Neh 4.1 f EU.

Hermann Gunkel finally notes that the psalm fits into the situation of the entire post-exilic period, and that due to poor source location of this 4.1 f EU literally comes to light only in 1 Macc 5 EU and Neh.
